People with physical,sensory,intellectual or age related disabilities. Exclude people with only ACC or mental health difficulties alone. People with Aspergers syndrome have access to needs assessment via the local Child and Adolescent and Family service at Hastings Hospital.

Service Provided;Personal care,home management assistance,respite care,assessment for residential care and subsidies.

Age Range:

6months to 65 years plus.

Referral Source: Self-referral or GP/service provider referral.

Whanganui Disability Resources Centre

The centre provides services to those who identify having a disability and require information relating to their needs; such as disability information, equipment, referrals to service providers and agencies, advocacy and community education. WDRC also provide a very comprehensive education transition and supported employment service; vocational assessment and planning, support within the placement, support in training, co-ordination of transition from school to work and ongoing support and career development. They cover all ages, referrals are open. We are a member of the NZ Federation of Disability Information Centres and we are a principal member of the Association for Supported Employment in NZ - ASENZ.

They have an Information Office and (sometimes) an Integration Co-ordinator. The role includes: liaison with clients, families and providers of services, supplying any information relating to disability, ranging from the political aspects to informal support and everything in between.
